How To Avoid Becoming A Bridezilla

Having been married once before, I guess I’m in a positive position. I know what is involved in planning a wedding. I know how easily things can spiral out of control and I know how tempers can fray!

This time around, I’ve taken a much more relaxed approach to planning my wedding (I’m hoping Sean agrees with me on this!).

I thought I’d share my a couple of tips for avoiding that awful title of Bridezilla if you’re planning a wedding this year.

Top Tips For Planning Your Wedding

  1. Just Breathe- You may have joined a website to plan every last detail of your wedding or you may have countless notebooks and Pinterest boards detailing every moment of your special day. Whilst your wedding day is a very special and important day, don’t lose sight of why you are having your wedding. It should always be about you and your fiancé, NOT about how expensive your favours are.
  2. Shop Around- It’s so easy to get sucked into expensive companies and products and it sometimes feels like the more ‘experts’ you speak to, the more ‘stuff’ you ‘need’ for your special day. This is ABSOLUTE RUBBISH! With some savvy shopping, you can bring your wedding in for much less than you had perhaps anticipated. I personally use eBay a lot if for nothing else than to gauge how much I SHOULD be paying for something. As I’m having a mostly vintage theme, I also keep an eye out in charity shops, second hand shops and bootsales.
  3. Don’t Be Afraid- You have family and friends right? Ask them for help. Someone ALWAYS knows someone that can help with something. Similarly though, don’t be afraid to (politely) ask people to trust you to make your own choices. I know that sometimes people’s ‘help’ can be more of a hindrance than a help.

 

These 3 tips alone can keep you calm and help you avoid being labelled as a Bridezilla! There’s just one more thing that I would say; don’t forget about you!

Spending so much time planning your special day can mean that somewhere along the way, you forget to look after yourself. Yes, you have planned every aspect of how you’re going to look on your special day, but have you remembered to look after your hair, skin and nails? Are you getting enough sleep? Are you being properly nourished? Crash dieting for a wedding is not a good idea. You’re likely to end up feeling and looking tired, your skin might break out and you will definitely not look your best.

Most people plan their weddings at least a year in advance. That’s enough time to get to how you want to be. Healthy body routines and really looking after yourself during that year will ensure you sparkle from the inside on your wedding day with healthy looking hair, skin and nails.

Remembering just these few simple things will certainly help you in your wedding planning journey. Remember that it’s about you and your fiancé(é), no-one else. It’s YOUR day, enjoy it!
